What I'm Doing Now

Updated: March 9, 2018

When I'm not working or merrying around with my family and friends, I'm currently focusing on these things:

Investing time in Various Communities

  • Co-Organizer Lead for A11YChi, a group of digital professionals working for accessibility and inclusive design
  • As a member of board at Deaf Kids Code (DKC), building mentoring relationships between deaf/hard-of-hearing(hoh) professionals and youth, strengthening the next generation and bridging the severe economic and social gaps
  • Attending ChiHackNight, a weekly event for civic engagement via technology
  • Co-organizing an Accessibility Camp (Fall 2019)
  • DeafPros, a space for deaf and hard of hearing professionals to chat and support each other
  • Being a trustee at Chicago Chapter of Illinois Association Illinois Association of the Deaf (IAD), promoting advancement of the social, educational, and economic well-being of the deaf and hard of hearing people in the city and nearby suburbs. Currently, rebuilding the chapter to focus on the needs of the city residents: 1) Hospital/Medical, 2) Education, and 3) Police-Community relations
  • Bulding CD2BiT, a co-operative initiative empowering and mentoring deaf/hard-of-hearing/deafblind learners to succeed in STEM careers.

Basically, to blaze trails, but leave bread crumbs behind.

Learning Design More Deeply In Various Ways

  • Working through Full Stack JavaScript via Treehouse
  • Dabbling in Vue.js and React.js
  • Culivating interests in modular and generative designs, films of Yasujirō Ozu, and the works of Karl Gerstner

Living and Resting Well

  • Fanboy-ing at Frank Lloyd Wright sites
  • Breaking for teas, walks, conversations, books and songs
  • Valuing food above hoarded gold: Pho noodles at Pho Loan (Uptown), pozole and pambazos at El Habanero (Logan Square), Cha-Shu Ramen at Misoya (Mt. Prospect, IL), italian beef at Nottoli + Chicago dogs at Superdawg (Norwood Park), fried chicken at Harold's (South Loop) and tacos at Carnitas Uruapan (Pilsen) and much more
